In this activity from Science Friday, students have the opportunity to explore color perception by creating their own colored lenses. While the resource tasks students to create their own set of frames from a printable template and colored cellophane, not every home may have the colored plastic to create the lenses. For this activity, the reviewer used an alternative material and colored Ziploc bags with different colored markers to construct the lenses. While the outcomes were still the same, using alternative materials like plastic bags or liners may distort an image and prevent the participant from seeing objects in their true form. Nonetheless, the alternative material still worked and this activity provided a quick method for experiencing color distortion as it relates to light absorption.
