This activity allows students to investigate different types of bird beaks and how the different shapes and sizes are reflective of the environment and diet unique to each species. Coupled with 2 videos providing background information, the instructions are clear and concise. Using materials readily found in the home, participants are able to play a game where they can test the effectiveness of different utensils (tongs, scissors, tweezers, etc.) with grabbing ‘food shaped’ materials. Overall, this activity provides an engaging approach to support students’ learning evolutionary adaptations among several bird species.
