This experiment has a lot of learning potential, but the experiment may be difficult to execute without the proper materials. You do not need to have a scale that measures in grams as there are online conversion tools that can help you measure out how much baking soda you would need (I got around 1/8th of a teaspoon) and the water is measured in cups and mL. The experiment may possibly vary depending on where you get your plant leaves and if you have a direct light bulb you can shine on your leaf discs vs. using direct sunlight. The syringe is the most necessary as it how you remove the air from the leaf discs. It took me a while to get the discs to sink to the bottom and even longer for them to float all the way back up to the top. This activity works best as either a demonstration for a class or if you have all the necessary supplies.
