Karen

Coloring flowers with science is a great activity for relating it to several concepts. This activity is easy to set up, if carnations aren't available, you can use celery, Napa cabbage, or white roses. It's fun to be able to see the colors appear on the leaves and petals over time. The experiment can take some time, sometimes over days, but for quicker results using warm water and having leaves on the plant will help.

This activity is simple and organized. The educational value of this lesson is a fun experience in learning about transpiration for elementary students. This activity can be done with very few supplies. If white carnations are not available, try using any kind of white plant to see if it'll work. I tried a jasmine flower and the chosen color appeared. Overall, the quality of the content is in-depth and user friendly for all elementary students.

A fun way to look at structures and functions of plant parts. Seeing the flowers change colors is an exciting reward for the work. It does take some patience waiting for the color change.

This is a fun and engaging experiment with a very good explanation. Can be done easily without or with minimal adult supervision. The materials (like the flowers/celery and food coloring) may not be readily on hand, but are not difficult to obtain in a grocery store.

I think this is a great activity and very enjoyable for all involved. Some people may need to go out and buy the materials needed which might be difficult for some families. I like that they mention using celery also if you don't have carnations.

Classic experiment that is easy to do with my 3 and 6 year old. We have done an experiment with paper towels and making a rainbow of color in water cups so this is a nice complimentary experiment.
