In this activity from Science Friday, students investigate the sun’s movement by ‘recording’ how ultraviolet light hits photosensitive paper. While the activity calls for Sunprint paper (available online), participants can substitute the material with dark construction paper for comparable results. In addition, the resource falls short of presenting audiences with comprehensive background information, however, the educational value lies with developing students’ understanding of the path of ultraviolet light as it hits the Earth’s surface, and more interestingly, the function of photosensitive paper (interaction of molecules in the presence of ultraviolet light).
