In this Mystery Science mini-lesson video, the host, Doug, introduces students to the science around broken bones and how they heal over time. Utilizing a series of infographics and x-ray images, Doug explains what broken bones look like and the methods doctors use to treat them without having to use invasive surgical procedures (use of casts and slings). While the material can be sensitive for younger audiences (those with a fear of injuries or treatments), he presents the material using non-threatening terminology that educates audiences on the restorative capabilities of the human body. This resource provides a limited introduction to the topic, however, it succeeds at dispelling fears and the mysteries around the body’s way of healing broken bones for younger students.
