Games are a great way for students learn science concepts. I think this card game is great because these are common animals that students have encountered, seen around their neighborhood, or in their back yard. If printing the cards are an issue, then try writing out the animals on index cards and write a few notes about their food source on the card. Students can also have fun drawing their own animals on the cards. The cards in the print out are a great start, as an extension, student can think about other animals that aren’t in the deck, make their own cards, and research some food items the new animals they want to add might eat to build longer food chains. I think the video provides a great introduction into food chains, but there is no mention in the video that food chains start with the sun, so I would point that out and maybe have all students draw a sun on an index card to connect from to start their food chains.
