This a short video introduction into something that is truly fascinating, 3D printing. Before accessing the resource, it is important to ask your student what they think technology and engineering is as well as having them look up subtractive and additive sculpting. It will really give them a good foundation about what they will be seeing. Have them write down their response and think about what advantage/disadvantage a 3D printer would give them. I really like that the video host ask the kids what you would do if you had a 3D printer because it lets them imagine the infinite possibilities. The mechanical engineer does a good job at really breaking down what the 3D printer does while emphasizing that the 3D printer needs blueprints that come from humans. After watching the video, I recommend having your child explore tinkercad.com so they can try to design their own creation.
