This is sure to be "tree"-mendously in-"tree"-guing to anyone interested in learning more about an awesome National Park. Can you guess the topic? This resource is a four minute video about the Petrified Forest National Park in eastern Arizona. It explains the process of mass petrification and how earth’s natural processes could create such awesome looking fossils of ancient trees.

This video was very interesting and informative. I loved how they went on location to the national park, and did not just show pictures of it. They did a great job explaining how the petrification process works. They had fun props and diagrams. I absolutely loved that they mentioned the importance of keeping it national parks the way you found them by not taking rocks, or in this case, petrified wood.

A petrified forest is generally interesting for students because fossilized materials were around when dinosaurs were around. There is lots of great information in the video about how the petrified wood was created and how these fossils can tell us a lot about the history of the area. An activity that models the process of petrified wood would be a great pair with this video.

Engaging video about a rare type of forest most kids never really know about. Use the video to start a discussion on fossils, plate tectonics or changes in habitats. Cute cut-out diagrams do a great job of explaining how the trees became fossilized. The ending message is so important for kids to understand that national parks and all natural areas for that matter are for everyone to enjoy. We all must do our part to keep nature untouched which means we take only pictures as souvenirs.

The information is presented in a very creative and eye-catching way that both amuses the audience and keeps their attention. I believe any young learner would find this video very interesting and educational.

My son liked this video, and the people did a great job of animating the narration to help kids follow along. We had lots of conversation about dinosaurs after watching since they made an appearance. I'm not sure he completely understood the science in the video but he's younger than the recommended age. Would be even better if there was an activity to follow up on what they teach you in the video.
